Memorial Day

           It has been an exciting couple of days in Texas so far! Yesterday was my first exposure to First Baptist--I shook a lot of hands and forgot a lot of names--and I am very excited to see where I will be in the following months. I met most of the staff at FBCS and I really felt a warmness and welcoming spirit by all. I chatted with the lead pastor ,Travis, before the second service and his initial journey into ministry much like my current situation and I felt very encouraged afterwards. Travis shared with me how he too left his home town after his sophomore year of college and worked at a church he has never attended. He told me that summer was extremely influential in his decision on which area of ministry to pursue. His testimony brings so much encouragement to me, but it also gives me a sense of anxiousness. I desire so deeply to fulfill my ministry and follow the path that the Lord desires for me and I want to walk away from this summer having a better direction in ministry. I guess when it all boils down I want to be teaching the message of the Bible, loving others, and making/encouraging disciples. I need to trust God with this summer and trust that He is absolutely and totally worth my entire life which includes my career path....

Some other things that have happened in the past few days:
-We played basketball at a students graduation party yesterday, and I finally did that one crossover between the defenders legs and took it in for the finish. I have never played a game of bball that well in 99 degree weather.
-Scott and I (mostly Scott) cut down a tree today on Papa Bob's prairie. Shout out to Big John for making me the worker that I am today.
- Had a great late night theology talk with Scott last night. I am looking forward to many more over the course of this summer.

           Tomorrow is the first "real" day of the internship and I cannot wait to become closer friends with this team of leadership and see what I can do to serve. Begin to pray for Super Summer which is coming up next week. Pray that the gospel will be preached and hearts will be softened to receive and adjust.

This hymn was sung yesterday and I just was moved by the lyrics. Christ is all we need and the only "need" in our lives...

  1. I need Thee every hour, most gracious Lord;
    No tender voice like Thine can peace afford.
    • Refrain:
      I need Thee, oh, I need Thee;
      Every hour I need Thee;
      Oh, bless me now, my Savior,
      I come to Thee.
  2. I need Thee every hour, stay Thou nearby;
    Temptations lose their pow’r when Thou art nigh.
  3. I need Thee every hour, in joy or pain;
    Come quickly and abide, or life is vain.
  4. I need Thee every hour; teach me Thy will;
    And Thy rich promises in me fulfill.
  5. I need Thee every hour, most Holy One;
    Oh, make me Thine indeed, Thou blessed Son.
